The World Turns Upside Down – So Do Our Pumps!

Years ago, a CP Pump Systems customer in the chemical industry decided to change the type of installation from horizontal to vertical for a large number of magnetically coupled, metallic pumps from CP's MKP series. New pump procurements include the requirement for vertical alignment with a corresponding support frame. What are the reasons that motivate many of our customers to install their pumps vertically?

One of the most compelling arguments is the reduced space required for installation. Even in direct comparison with the already very compact monobloc design, savings of 20% are possible with this customer variant. With the largest possible motor size of 280/90 kW in the vertical monobloc design, the savings are as high as 60% and approx. 70% in the bearing bracket variant. In today's tight space conditions, this is a welcome gain in space for new installations and especially for conversions and system expansions.

In addition to the smaller space requirement, automatic idling is an important argument in batch operation, especially when crystallising substances are involved or sedimenting solids are pumped. The CP design has proven itself especially in these requirements and stands out accordingly. Further advantages are the uniform distribution of solids in the pump, the avoidance of lumps and, when pumping melts, safer and more efficient discharge.
